February 2025 Roadmap Update

It's time for our Roadmap Update! We have been hard at work behind the scenes on the gears that keep Grid running and are happy to provide more visibility on what's coming next!

Our last update (1.0.2) went live on January 29th. It addressed several bugs impacting Android users and introduced customizable sharing windows for both individual contacts and groups, allowing users to set specific days and times to share location. A Battery Saver Mode was added to the settings page for reduced power usage, along with Incognito Mode to stop sharing entirely. Display Names became editable in the Settings page, and Device Key Verification were added to confirm the correct contacts are connected.

Our next update (1.0.3) is slated for February 24th. It will include some status differentiation updates (Last Seen, Incognito) as well as a Ping Button which once clicked, will send your current location to all contacts you are sharing with. We'll also be making the Android app directly available for download off of Github for those users that don't use GooglePlay. Additionally, we will be adding a server status page to our website that users can check to confirm Grid is up and running or see of any upcoming maintenance plans.

Future update releases (1.0.4 and beyond) will include GridPRO features - meaning they will require a subscription. This is done in order to maintain Grid's growing costs and enable us to bring more robust features to Grid. Among the first GridPRO features will be satellite & terrain map layers, custom profile pictures and later on (1.0.5) internal group waypoints. Waypoints will allow users to set icons on destinations that are important to the group (going for a bar hop with friends? Label all the bars that will be frequented that night) and will be visible to group members only.

Our beyond includes much more than listed but we are continuously and actively exploring and working on more ways to increase the privacy of Grid. As always, we welcome and encourage feedback and feature requests!
